Every child deserves a strong foundation in writing and the skills to express themselves confidently. In this camp, we use a structured step by step approach that starts at the sentence level so any student, regardless of ability can grow in their writing. From the sentence, we move to a single paragraph, and finally a full-length essay. With our clear, explicit instruction, we are so excited to empower your child to enter the school year feeling confident and excited in the road ahead.

  • Evidence-based, explicit mini-lessons

  • Guided practice with immediate, individualized feedback.

  • Engaging stories and discussion that spark strong writing

  • A dedicated outdoor game block each day to recharge, build connection, and reset focus

Meet the Instructor

Hi, I’m Brenda Ray, founder of Pen to Pathways. I’ve been teaching writing for over a decade, working with middle and high school students to build strong, structured writing skills from the ground up.

As a published author and experienced instructor, I specialize in breaking writing into clear, manageable steps. I believe students thrive when they understand how writing works , and when they’re given practical tools they can return to again and again.

My classroom balances explicit instruction with discussion, movement, and collaborative activities so students stay engaged while building real skill. I care deeply about creating an environment where students feel supported, capable, and proud of the work they produce.

I look forward to welcoming students this summer!
