My classroom uses a research-based, data driven approach to teaching.
The Hochman Method is a cognitive- evidence based approach to writing instruction that transforms the way students write, learn, read, and think. It emphasizes systematic and explicit instruction - writing that takes place out loud rather than silent and independent work.
This approach supports students at any level but is especially helpful with struggling writers.
In each session, I will be analyzing student work to diagnose gaps in learning. This allows me to track their progress in a quantitive way, which eliminates speculation and helps us focus on specific areas of concern.
Our 4 Step Structure
1. Assess
Each session begins with an assessment to track your child's progress and identify focus areas.
2. Skill Building
From there, we begin working on the specific skills that will make your child a strong writer.
3. Apply
We practice these skills across various assignments so students learn when and how to apply them confidently.
4. Revisit
Sessions build cumulatively, making skills automatic while continuously adapting to your child's needs.
