Reading & Writing Intervention

Grades 3 -8

One-to-one in-person instruction for students in the East Bay Area.

15-minute call to discuss your child’s reading or writing needs.

“My child is bright but struggling to read.”

“She can explain her ideas, but not write them down.”

“I know my child understands the material - but it’s just not showing up in his work.”

Does this sound familiar?

If you said yes, you're not alone. Many bright students simply need more explicit, systematic instruction to thrive as learners.

Hi, I’m Brenda Ray.

I help students build the foundational skills they need to become confident readers and writers.

My instruction is grounded in an evidence-based approach called structured literacy, which teaches reading and writing through clear, explicit steps. Rather than leaving students to guess how language works, skills are broken down and practiced in a logical sequence so students can build understanding and confidence over time.

With this approach, I’ve watched many students grow into stronger readers, spellers, and writers often discovering that skills that once felt confusing can become clear with the right instruction.

My Approach

Structured & Explicit

Every lesson is structured and based in the science of reading. Instead of focusing on whole word literacy, my lessons break the language down into manageable parts that can be repeated and practiced to automaticity.

Skills are taught in a research- based, systematic order, building off one another until reading becomes fluid.

Tailored & Cumulative

Each student’s lesson is individualized because every learner has different strengths and challenges. During each lesson, I collect data to track progress and identify which skills need more practice.

Lessons include consistent review so students internalize new skills. This cumulative approach supports how the brain learns language -through repetition and practice over time.

.

Multi-Sensory

In every lesson all parts of the brain are engaged through auditory, kinesthetic, and visual exercises. This creates multiple neural pathways for the brain to make connections and retain information. Research shows this is essential for those with learning differences.
