Join us for a four-part series. Each workshop walks you through a key stage of the essay writing process. The full series is highly recommended—but if you can only attend one or two, The Outline and The Draft will give you the biggest boost.

Choose the Right Topic

Tuesday, Nov. 18th | 7 pm PST

Thursday, Nov. 20th | 7 pm PST

Choosing the right topic is the single best way to stand out among admission committees. In this session, we’ll uncover the secrets of successful essay topics - complete with examples and clear do’s and don’ts. We’ll then discover the most authentic and compelling version of your story. We’ll identify the angle that highlights your strengths and character while exploring the best narratives that showcase those moments. I’ll help you approach the personal statement with a clear idea, compelling narrative, and helpful examples to guide the way.

Create Your Essay Outline

Monday, Nov. 24th | 7 pm PST

Tuesday, Nov. 25th | 7 pm PST

Once we’ve found the right topic, we’ll create a focused outline and build your narrative step by step. We’ll brainstorm vivid opening hooks and memorable closing reflections that leave an impression on the admissions team. If appropriate, we’ll also note areas to integrate meaningful quotes or brief “outside voices” (as in journalism) to strengthen your story and provide texture.

Draft & Revise Your Essay

Tuesday, Dec. 2nd | 7 pm PST

Thursday, Dec. 4th | 7 pm PST

This is where the essay truly comes to life. We’ll draft and develop your narrative, following the structured outline to provide an engaging essay. Together we’ll write and revise for rhythm, precision, and clarity — replacing vague or flat language with strong, vivid phrasing. Each round of feedback helps sharpen your voice, enhance flow, and draw out the details that make your story uniquely yours.

Refine & Polish Your Essay

Tuesday, Dec. 9th | 7 pm PST

Thursday, Dec. 11th | 7 pm PST

In the final stage, we’ll focus on precision. We’ll check spelling, punctuation, and fluency, ensuring that every sentence is polished and purposeful. We’ll also make sure you work is within the limits of those pesky word counts! By the end, you’ll have a refined, submission-ready essay that’s both polished and impressive.

FAQ’s

How do I access the workshop once I’ve made my purchase?

I will send you a Zoom link and further instructions within 24 hours! Be sure to include your email at the checkout.

How long is each session?

One hour each.

How many students per workshop?

6 maximum.

Why should I trust you?

I hold a masters in creative nonfiction which is the exact type of writing this essay calls for. I’ve been published by some of the most reputable places in the country including Yale, Brooklyn Magazine, and I’m a Pushcart Prize nominee. I’ve taught writing at every level from Honors/AP English to College literature courses, and writing instruction is my passion.

Will you write my essay for me?

Unfortunately no, that would be a form of plagiarism and also rob you of the experience of truly reflecting. This is your essay and should mirror your voice!

Will I get personalized feedback from the instructor?

Yes! I can help you get a sense of where your essay is going, what phrasings are working (or not), and how to begin/end your paragraphs in the most compelling way.

Can’t I just use ChatGBT?

AI is good at many things but writing is not one of them. Most admissions committees are able to tell, right away, when an applicant has used ChatGBT. AI writing is often stiff, generic, and lacks the human sentiment that makes narrative work so compelling. Plus, it’s cheating.

Does this mean I’ll definitely get into my top-choice school?

The personal essay is a big part of the admissions process, but it’s not the only part. There are GPA’s, SAT scores, resumes, letters of recommendation, and many other factors that influence a committees decision. While a compelling a personal statement can absolutely excel your application, it does not guarantee admission.
